Plant Layout, Design and Detailing
"A fast and accurate visualization of your assets"
Plant Layout, Design and Detailing
ParaMatic we strive to ensure that no task is ever done twice, resulting in the saving of time and cost. The partners have extensive experience in creating workflows and systems to reduce transferring between CAD packages when moving from a plant layout to the detail design. To achieve this, all our Engineering is carried out in Tekla Structures. We have successfully created in-house developed, Add-On packages to augment the standard Tekla Structures product. A typical workflow when designing a new plant is shown below.
Further to the wonderful information provided, Tekla also generates an information rich BIM model to enable our clients to visually interact with their new assets from installation all the way to maintenance and maintenance schedules.
ParaMatic Plant Design Workflow
Plant layout
Laying out plant in Tekla is simple and fast due to the vast structural steel libraries available for all regions, supported by Tekla’s unique pick and place functionality. Adding in staircases, cat ladders and plate work is literally the click of 2 buttons. Our automated ParaMatic Tank, Conveyor and Pipe Rack programs ensure instant and adaptable models, which are all easy to detail as seen below:
Tekla Structures allows us to go directly into detailing of all disciplines including but not limited to Civils, Rebar, Structural Steel, Platework, Piping, and mechanicals, without having to redraw in a different platform
The easy UI of Tekla and preloaded steel profiles ensures a very fast layout is completed and approved. ParaMatic’s combined experience of over 60 years in engineering, design, fabrication and erection together with Tekla gives us the upper hand to ensure your plant is designed and laid out sensibly, economically and effeciently
The layout is imported into Tekla Structural Designer to design and size the steel members and automatically updated again in Tekla. By using our inhouse 3D scanner we can ensure the new plant and infrastructure ties into an existing plant.
Detail Fabrication Drawings
Tekla Structures is known for the generation of structural steel fabrication drawings. Adding connections, grating and handrailing is done swiftly by using the Tekla built-in macros together with some of our own configured add-ins. Detailed drawings, NC files and reports are created within a matter of hours instead of days. Revision is easy and revision control is integral with the product.
ParaMatic is known for their efficiency and quality of work when it comes to detailed fabrication drawings of steel structures and plate work.
We have developed tools within Tekla structures to streamline the design and detailing of many repeat geometries such as: Tanks, Conveyors, Pipe Gantries, Handrailing, etc. For instance a 200m Conveyor takes us no more than 38 seconds to detail, inclusive of a camber, every bolt and nut, handrailing, grating, etc.
Due to the use of Tekla, we generate well detailed HTML driven Excel reports, CNC cutting files (Including plate developments), detailed GA, Assembly and Single Part drawings and perform rigging studies. We also use our 3D Scanner to interface these details with existing site infrastructure accurately.
Civil & Rebar detailing
The automated rebar detailing functions Tekla offers supports quick, accurate and auditable civil layout and reinforcing schedules. Due to the fact that it’s done within the same Tekla model, we can guarantee that the structural steel and civils will tie up on site. The rebar schedules are generated within seconds of model completion.
Detailing structural steel and rebar on the same platform ensures that there are no foundation mismatched with structural steel. The Civils and Rebar is detailed within the same model as the structural steel.

Pipe Layout & Detailing
Using our Internationally sold Piping Add-On for Tekla, we are able to seamlessly run unlimited piping within the structural model and support it with structural steel without having to import references from another CAD system. With just a click of a few buttons, we can automatically generate detailed fabrication drawings, reports and bills of purchase for piping in the renowned Tekla reporting format.
Detailing Structural steel and piping in the same platform, allows one to detail and tie the pipe supports to the structural steel, resulting in live supports. This means that when a pipe is modified, the Structural steel details will update to accommodate the modification
Tekla is known for being the best platform to use for the detailing of structural steel. With the new add-on developed by ParaMatic we are able to detail the Piping with similar ease, accuracy and efficiency
Mechanical Design & detailing
ParaMatic Add-Ons which automate repeat structures are supporting ParaMatic plant layouts and mechanical design, changing the general opinion that Tekla is only good to design and detail structures. Tekla is one of the more advanced modelling tools available to design and detail plate-work and ParaMatic can deliver the same quick functionality, but on a common platform, eliminating errors and delays.
Although Tekla is known for being a Structural package, ParaMatic has successfully developed and detailed numerous mechanical objects within Tekla
From Tanks to Hydraulic driven Mechanical Grabs and Arms, it’s all possible. Using some of our in-house developed add-ons we are able to detail these objects with all machining tolerances necessary to build an accurate product
Thanks to the elaborate document manager, all reports and drawings are always up to date, and having the ability to export all plates and parts to .nc1 (Numeric Controlled) files streamlines the project even further
